Weighing an Atlanta care offer

An online visit still needs a clear care plan.

Telehealth means getting care from a distance. The Georgia details matter as much as the screen.

Before joining an online service, ask who will assess you, where that person is licensed and whether an in-person visit may be part of the plan.

Your location matters

For care received while you are in Georgia, the doctor generally needs either a Georgia medical licence or a Georgia telemedicine licence, as of September 28, 2026.

A telemedicine licence lets a doctor give care from a distance. Ask which Georgia licence the doctor holds and look up the record.

The available copy of Georgia law only included changes through March 28, 2024. This guide cannot confirm whether that law changed after that date.

Before paying, ask the service to show which current Georgia licence lets the doctor treat you.

Ask about the first prescription

In a January 2024 statement, Georgia’s medical board described an in-person exam as the general starting point before an initial prescription.

As of September 28, 2026, Georgia’s rules allowed some exceptions. One was a remote exam that gave the health professional an examination at least as good as seeing you in person.

Which everyday video appointments would satisfy that test is left unspecified in the rule. Ask the health professional to explain how they can examine you properly. Ask where you would go if an in-person exam is needed.

Find the way back to the health professional

As of September 28, 2026, Georgia’s remote-care rule requires the health professional’s name, role and emergency contact details.

As of September 28, 2026, the rule required the health professional to make a serious effort to arrange an in-person exam at least once a year.

Ask who would arrange that exam, where it would happen and what it would cost.

“Who answers a question after the visit, and is that included in the fee?”
