Weighing an Atlanta care offer
What would the test help decide?
Ask for the purpose of each proposed test, how the result will be used and the price of reviewing it.
A lab panel is a group of tests sold or ordered together. The name of a panel does not tell you why it is being proposed for you. Ask for that explanation.
Connect a test to a care question
As of September 28, 2026, Georgia’s rules required appropriate diagnostic tests when needed for a proper diagnosis, including in remote care.
Diagnostic means used to help find out what health problem is present. Ask what a result might change: whether to treat, which treatment to discuss or what to check next.
“If the result is normal, what would we do? What if it is not?”
Ask for the test and review fees
Request the name of each test and who would bill it. Ask whether sample collection and reviewing the results are included. Ask your plan about the named lab if you want to use insurance.
If a package includes repeat testing, ask what decides when it is repeated. Request a price for the parts rather than relying on the package name.
Ask how earlier results fit
Tell the health professional if you already have recent results. Ask how to share them and whether they answer the question being asked. Let the health professional explain any gaps.
Before leaving, find out who will discuss the result with you. Ask how to get a copy for your own records. Keep that answer beside the cost.
